Stained Glass Crafts: Not As Complicated To Learn As You May Think!

Stained Glass Crafts: Not As Complicated To Learn As You May Think!Stained Glass Crafts are not just about huge windows for churches and cathedrals you know!

In the past only the rich churches could afford the equipment and resources needed to make such advanced colored glasses. Luckily for us, these days, technology has allowed the price of stained glass to come within the reach of the common man and thus the hobby is more accessible than ever. Of course this glass is still not cheap, but if you work on a modest scale and are careful you can make pieces of glass art without breaking the bank. Just be careful not to break the glass!

Starting on a budget

Again working on a small-scale is the key. You can often buy offcuts of broken glass much more cheaply than full sheets glass, so find your local stockist and ask them. Glass cutters can be bought quite cheaply, you don't need a top of the range cutter at first. If you have an old soldering iron in your home it may be good enough to solder your zinc or lead 'came' (this is the metal which holds the glass pieces together). You may need some glass 'nippers' for nibbling bits off the edge of a piece of glass to fine tune its shape, these can be got for about $20.

Finally you will also need a design for your project. Luckily we have the internet now and so you will have access to many free stained glass patterns, especially if you choose the Google image search, just grab some and you are ready for your first tutorial.
