Knitting is a subject that one will no doubt agree, has something for everyone. French Knitting is a great place to begin, especially for the young ones starting on their first knitting project. Usually, they would use a Knitting Nancy for French Knitting.
A Knitting Nancy is wooden peg shaped and painted like a miniature doll, with four metal loops on the top of its head and a hole, running through the middle from top to bottom. If unable to obtain one and there are some empty wooden cotton reels, one can create one for them. Draw a square on top of the empty cotton reel and hammer in four short headless nails, one in each corner. Wool is the only requirement to commence the project. Kids, enjoy French Knitting, especially with their friends and siblings. Throw over Rugs and Place Mats can be constructed from the finished projects.
Graduating on from French Knitting, your next project would be knitting squares and knitting scarves. Neither of these projects takes long to make. Squares are only small and quick to make. Knitting the squares is very rewarding and it is a great way to use up any left over wool from previous projects. Once having knitted the required number of squares, they can be sewn together to create beautiful rugs.
Making scarves are a lot more fun because they come in all colours and lengths. Although, the scarf is longer in length, it is not difficult to make because, in the beginning, one would only be using plain knitting. Knitting is something that does not take long to master. Initially, stitches are dropped, and it will look like there are button holes all through your work. Stay calm and patient because it will not take long to become more proficient and learn how to correct your mistakes. Once having mastered the art of scarf making and start wearing them, all your friends will be putting in orders to have one made for themselves.
Jumpers, Sweaters, and Cardigans are next on the agenda, and over time, there will be quite a few made. Once progressed to this stage, your stitches would have improved. Stitches used will be, not only be Plain knitting but also Purl stitch, Rib and Cable. If interested in learning how to knit, look for someone who can teach knitting. Do not despair if this is not possible. Many books explaining everything in detail from how to cast on and off through to perfecting each stitch. Books of patterns are also available. Patterns, Techniques, and eBooks are also available on the internet, including YouTube tutorials.
Old, handmade crafts, such as knitting are becoming less popular in the modern world. Life has become too easy, in regard to clothing, just a quick trip to the store, and all we need is there.
Attention, to all the Knitters out there seriously think about teaching one person a year how to knit so, this enjoyable old craft will not die out and become forgotten.
